So Why SIMS 3?

The SIMS 3 provides an excellent, experimental medium for students (players) to try out things and see what happens.  The engaging game play then can provide a foundation (a muse?) for encouraging writing as well as pushing students to think critically about social issues.  This was largely inspired when I heard Dr. Henry Jenkins of MIT talking about "The Nickel and Dimed Challenge" in SIMS 2.  The game challenge is based on the book Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich and deals with issues surrounding raising children as a single parent on a fixed income.  Read (and hear) more about this SIMS 2 Challenge on the SIMS 2 Challenge Podcast Page.
